Invisalign is the preferred way to straighten teeth and achieve a healthy, beautiful smile for teens and adults of all ages. It involves aligners that are clear and virtually invisible to the naked eye. Best of all, Invisalign aligners are removable so you can take them out any time you eat, drink, brush, or floss your teeth. If you’re looking for a discreet and comfortable way to straighten teeth, Dr. Bibona will likely recommend them.
Here’s how Invisalign works: You’ll get a new set of aligners every two weeks or so. As long as you wear them for at least 22 hours a day, they’ll slowly but surely move your teeth into their proper positions. Invisalign can resolve crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, and a number of other orthodontic imperfections.
When you initially put in a new set of aligners, you may notice that they feel snug or a bit too tight. They may even be difficult to put in and take out of your mouth. Rest assured that this is completely normal and no reason to worry. The reason this occurs is because the aligners haven’t been shaped to fit your current teeth. Instead, they’ve been created to fit the alignment that your teeth need to have at the end of the two weeks.
Over the next two weeks, your aligners will conform to the shape of your mouth, loosen up, and become more comfortable. If your aligners do not loosen up and continue to remain tight for more than a few days, contact our office right away. We will evaluate them as well as your mouth to determine the cause and what needs to be done.
