If you know you may be interested in Invisalign, but aren’t aware of the details involved with Invisalign, we are happy to provide further clarification!
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign involves clear, plastic aligners that are engineered to gradually straighten teeth over time. Generally, the aligners are worn for roughly 20 to 22 hours a day, sometimes they may also be worn at night, and are changed out every two weeks or so for a new set of aligners. This transition into a new set of aligners helps to apply the appropriate amount of pressure on the teeth in the right areas so that the desired tooth movement is possible.
Who can get Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is designed for orthodontic cases of many sorts, which include overbites, underbites, crossbites, gap teeth, open bites, and even crowded teeth. However, for patients who may have serious malocclusion or severe misaligned bites, you may not be an ideal candidate for Invisalign. You will need to consult with our orthodontic professional to see if you are able to receive Invisalign treatment.
On the bright side, if you are eligible for Invisalign, there is no age limit on who can receive Invisalign! With Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, patients of all ages can reap the benefits of Invisalign treatment. For Invisalign Teen, there are also blue compliance indicator dots for parents to monitor their child’s progress throughout Invisalign treatment.
Benefits of Invisalign:
Frankly, the benefits of an aligned smile speak for itself. For one, crooked teeth and misalignment can make it difficult to keep the teeth clean resulting in greater risk for tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss, so with Invisalign treatment you can easily prevent this from occurring.
Additionally, because Invisalign is removable this makes your life so much simpler! You won’t have to worry about brackets getting damaged during sporting events; metal showing in family portraits, or even food getting caught somewhere because they are not to be worn while eating. With this being said, there are no diet restrictions with Invisalign either since they aren’t worn during meals. So, you can eat all the corn on the cob you desire!
We can’t forget to relay to you that the aligners are comfortable and flexible to mold to the teeth. Since there aren’t wires, you won’t get poked in the gums. The aligners are finely trimmed to ensure no poking or irritation is caused. In the off chance that an aligner set may be cut too close to the gums, our orthodontist will gladly trim it down so that you will not be bothered.
How to get started with Invisalign:
The road to Invisalign starts with an initial evaluation with our orthodontist. During this time, we will discuss any questions or concerns you have regarding treatment and evaluate your mouth to see if treatment may be right for you. If your eligible for Invisalign, our staff will take digital scans of your mouth to construct a digital treatment plan that will provide a step-by-step transformation of your smile.
How do I take care of Invisalign?
After you’ve received your Invisalign aligners, it is important to clean them daily. If you notice a “cloudy” or “white-looking” coating on your aligners, you need to try and clean them much more diligently. When this coating appears, it is caused by a negative result of plaque build-up on the aligner. You should immediately gently brush and rinse your aligners with lukewarm water (never use hot water). Try this at least twice for best results.
While taking care of your Invisalign is important, it is equally important that you are brushing, flossing, and rinsing with a mouth was to try and limit the amount of bacteria that are on the teeth, as well!
